On 7 June the 3rdTEDxKalamataevent grew bigger surpassing its own limits! In one of the most important archaeological sites in the world, at the Theatre of Ancient Messene, 11 speakers lured the audience into the magical world of limits, and showed that we all can touch, and overcome them!
TEDxKalamata 2013 was the first TEDx in the world that took place at an archaeological site. After the Ekklesiasterion of Ancient Messene, this year’s event was inspired by ideas of people who daily demonstrate how something that seems impossible to be achieved can become a reality;if we overcome our biological, personal, and our social limits.
The town of Kalamata hosted 11 speakers, at the Ancient Theatre of Messene, who shared their own limits and the way they encouraged themselves to overcome them. Guillaume Nery, a world champion free diver, Alexandra Cousteau, an environmentalist and the granddaughter of Jacques-Yves Cousteau, the dancer of Madonna and Shakira, Daniel “CLOUD” Campos, the politician Safak Pavey, Simon Critchley, a British philosopher fromthe New School in New York, the 13 year old who will travel to the planet Mars, Alyssa Carson, a real super hero, actor and producer, Adam Pearson, the Wheelchair Tennis ParaOlympic athlete and champion, George Lazaridis, but also the Greek startups Locish&PeekInToo which have conquered the world, including Kalamata, and enraptured the audience in a special journey across the social, political, philosophical, physically, psychologically and limitations of the human mind! Host of the event was the talented Greek musician, Kostis Maraveyas, and this year’s TEDxKalamata event ended with the brilliant performance the Greek band Encardia.
The limits obtained form, sometimes real and sometimes fictional, revealing the life and personality of the speakers, who have decided to live without being restricted by them. Daniel “CLOUD” Campos with a unique exclusive performance for TEDxKalamata showed that human fear can become our ally, while George Lazaridisclaimed that the “people can do more than what their mind can think of.” Meanwhile the creators, born in Kalamata, of the application Locish claimed that ‘they are not afraid to have similar dreams of those of a 5 year old’.
TEDxKalamata “Limits” was initiated and developed within limits, but managed to overcome them, inspiring 1,700-plus spectators found in the archaeological area of Messinia, in a night full of vision and hope for a future free of any possible limit. Ideas worth spreading were presented, as is the motto of TED (Ideas Worth Spreading).
The organization of the event was actively supported by Cosmote, the main sponsor, and by other sponsors such as Aegean Airline, Costa Navarino, “Captain Vassilis and Carmen Constantakopoulos” Foundation, Horizon Blu 5 * and Papadimitriou C.C.
