The Center for Agri-Food Entrepreneurship in Messinia (CAEM) is organizing a seminar aiming to present the actions it implements and highlight important issues related to agri-food entrepreneurship. The workshop will take place in the conference hall of EliteCityResort Hotel (2 Navarinou str.) in Kalamata on Monday, May 21, between 18:00 and 20:30.

The CAEM’s main goal is to provide experiential learning aiming at the development of entrepreneurial education and the improvement of production-related skills. To this day more than 200 people have been trained in the following subject areas: Agritourism, Processing and Standardization of Olive Oil and Table Olives, Utilization and Cultivation of Aromatic and Medicinal Plants, Food Standardization and Preservation, and Cheesemaking. Along with the educational activities, the CAEM offers consulting services to businesses based in Messinia, whose aim is to develop new products.

In this context, Mr. Nektarios Zeibekis, commercial development consultant, will talk about sales promotion issues and the important qualities that a successful salesman should possess. Mr. Panagiotis Boretos, Commercial Manager – Deputy Managing Director of IRI Hellas, will talk about the way today’s consumers shop. Dr. Alexios Leandros Skaltsounis, Professor of Pharmacognosy and Chemistry of Natural Products at the National Kapodistrian University of Athens, will present data for the scientific documentation of the medicinal value of herbs and their link to local entrepreneurship. Ms. Evangelia Koutsovoulou, founder of aromatic plants export company“Daphnis and Chloe,” will then talk about the challenges facing a new agri-food business. Mr. Konstantinos Andrianopoulos, co-founder of the “Kalamata School of Tourism,” will present the results of the “Polystari” project, part of the “Agritourism” section of the seminar, and how they relate to suggestions for mild agritourism development in this particular village. Finally, Dr Philippos Papadopoulos, Director of the Strategic Projects Office of the American Farm School, will present a review of the CAEM and its future objectives, and the graduates of the 4th Seminar Cycle will be awarded their diplomas.

The talks will be followed by a light meal, and the participants will have the opportunity to try Messinian salad variations, created by the chefs of the Orizon Vocational Training Institute, based on products provided by businesses supported by the CAEM.
