The “Captain Vassilis and Carmen Constantakopoulos” Foundation is organizing the annual open seminar “Agricultural sector prospects in Messinia, 2017,” which will take place on Monday, November 27, at 17:00, at the conference center of the “Horizon Blu” hotel in Kalamata. As part of the action plan to establish Messinia as a model for sustainable rural development, the “Captain Vassilis and Carmen Constantakopoulos” Foundation will be presenting the results of the actions and studies carried out in 2017; moreover, other current issues concerning rural development in Messinia will be discussed.

In this context, conclusions and evidence from the study conducted thus far on rare pharmaceutical species that grow in Taygetus will be presented by Dr. Anastasios Darras, associate professor at the Technological Educational Institute of Peloponnese. Mr. Dimitris Velissariou, former dean of the Technological Educational Institute of Peloponnese, will talk about important issues concerning the prospects of the agricultural sector in Messinia, and Mr. Sotiris Liberopoulos, co-owner of the company “RADIKI,” will talk about issues related to the founding and development of the company from its beginning to this day. Mr. Dimitris Tsoukalas, former president of the Anavra community in Magnesia, and president of the voluntary organization “ANAVRA-ZO,” will describe how a place such as Anavra could stand as a bright example for other areas in Greece, and how a local government can contribute to the rural development of a region. Finally, Mr. Dinos Stergidis, president of the international olive oil competition “Athena,” will talk about the importance of such competitions, providing information about the last one that took place in Messinia. The talks will be followed by a discussion among the speakers, and there will also be time for the audience to ask questions. Mr. Kostas Tsaousis, journalist, will be the seminar’s coordinator.

The seminar will be followed by a light dinner for all participants, kindly provided by the “Captain Vassilis and Carmen Constantakopoulos” Foundation.

The aim of the seminar is to present the aforementioned results arising through the collaborations initiated by the “Captain Vassilis and Carmen Konstantakopoulos” Foundation. The aim is to provide information, and to give the producers and the rural economy professionals in Messinia the opportunity to exchange views on the development and the new possibilities in the agricultural sector.
