A few words about Paweł Dobrzycki:
Paweł Dobrzycki graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków in 1980. Since then, he has created over 300 stage designs for theater, opera and musicals worldwide. He has also directed several independent productions, for which he designed both the set and the costumes. In order to achieve the stage set exactly as he has envisioned it, he always designs the lighting himself. He teaches at various academies: The Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków and the Krakow Theater Academy (formerly known as the State Theater High School), also the Academy of Fine Arts and the Theater Academy in Warsaw. In the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, he founded the Department of Stage Design – the first and only department for stage design studies in Poland to this day – bringing in as teachers some excellent set designers and artists. He sketches and paints nonstop, and he has authored and co-authored many published articles and several screenplays. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Polish Center (OISTAT / the International Organization of Theater Designers, Technicians and Architects) and a representative of Poland at the Education Committee. His work has travelled all over the world, including Greece; he has collaborated with Andrew Visnevski on the performance of Hamlet in Athens in 1997, and he has participated in various productions, including performances in Epidaurus.
