Application deadline for the OXBELLY Screenwriters & OXBELLY Directors Lab, 21-28 June 2019, has been extended to January 31
Oxbelly is an annual forum of filmmakers from Greece and abroad. Through workshops, talks, and other activities, Oxbelly aims to benefit young filmmakers by bringing them in contact with other filmmakers from around the world. It is an initiative of Christos V. Constantakopoulos, producer at Faliro House, which began in 2015 at Costa Navarino in Messinia.
The Oxbelly Screenwriters & Oxbelly Directors Lab is under the artistic direction of director Athena Rachel Tsagaris (Chevalier, Attenberg). The Lab will give 8 to 10 filmmakers the opportunity to develop the screenplays of their first or second feature film during 6 days of intensive workshops, in the mythical land of Messinia.
For the first time this year, the participants are given the opportunity to direct a movie scene of their choice. During the workshop, they will be mentored by some of the greatest international filmmakers; through one-on-one meetings, as well as masterclasses, they will gain invaluable skills to help them finish their work.
The Screenplay Advisors for the year 2018 were Eva Stefani (Bathers), Michael Almereyda (Hamlet), Paul Thomas Anderson (Phantom Thread), Naomi Foner (Running on Empty), Miguel Gomes (Arabian Nights), Tamara Jenkins (Private Life), and Tobias Lindholm (A War). The names of the 2019 CreativeAdvisors will be announced in the upcoming months.
Up until 2018, screenplay submissions were made through exclusive invitations. This year, with the support of the Onassis Cultural Center for the 4th consecutive year, and the support of the “Captain Vassilis and Carmen Constantakopoulos” Foundation, Oxbelly invites all applicants from Greece to submit their work through an open call. After a double evaluation, 2 to 4 screenplays that stood out will be selected.
Oxbelly is further supported by AegeanAirlines and the French Institute of Greece.
Applications for the first round of evaluations are open until January 19, 2019.
The submissions that will make it to the second round of evaluations will be notified via email in February.
