ACTION

On November 2 and 3, 2017, olive oil tasting seminars were organized in Pylos and Kalamata, free of charge. The seminars were attended by 45 people in total, comprising both producers and professionals in the standardization and marketing of olive oil.

The purpose of the seminars was to promote understanding of basic issues related to quality and organoleptic assessment, as well as the relationship between quality and a successful export model.

Apart from the theoretical aspect, the seminars also included practical demonstration of Greek olive oil tasting.

The seminar trainers were Ms. Eleftheria Germanaki, PanelSupervisorfor the Laboratory of Organoleptic Assessment of the Agriculture Cooperative of Rethymno “ENOSI A.C.R.” – Expert olive oil judge in Greek and international competitions (ΚΟΤΙΝΟS, NYIOOC, DOMINA-IOOC, Terraolivo), and the Cretan Olive Oil Competition (CretanOOC), Mr. Manolis Karpadakis, Export and Marketing Department in Terra Creta, with long experience also in quality olive oil extraction, standardization and marketing, and Ms. Christina Stribakou, olive oil connoisseur and co-founder of LIÁ Cultivators, based in Messinia.

The Pylos seminar was organized by the Municipality of Pylos-Nestor and the “Sustainable Town” Network, and took place in the “Poseidonia” restaurant.

The Kalamata seminar was organized by the Messinian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and took place in the Elite City Resort.

The seminars in Messinia were supported by the “Captain Vassilis and Carmen Constantakopoulos” Foundation.
