ACTION

The “GALILEA” palliative care unit belongs to the Holy Metropolis of Mesogaia and Lavreotiki. It is staffed by a specialized team of health care professionals, including doctors, nurses, a psychologist, social workers, a physiotherapist and a priest. The purpose of palliative care is to prevent and relieve the symptoms—mental and physical—of life-threatening diseases.

For the past years, the “Captain Vassilis and Carmen Constantakopoulos” Foundation has supported the efforts of the “GALILEA” palliative care unit, which are aimed at providing relief to our fellow human beings in need.

The unit has ministered to more than 415 cancer patients at their home. In September 2011 the Care and Employment Center opened; there, twice a week, a group of volunteers and a health professional guide the patients towards various entertainment and creative pursuits.
