On the occasion of the bicentennial of the Greek Revolution, the comprehensive cultural tourism initiative MORIAS ’21 is inviting all restaurants in the Peloponnese to participate in an innovative action that will delight the visitors and highlight the history and flavors of the area. In collaboration with the five Chambers of the Peloponnese Region as well as other professional associations, the initiative titled “A ‘Revolutionary’ Menu” aims at reinforcing the visitors’ experiential connection with the Revolution era through gastronomy.

Following the tracks and eating habits of the warriors of 1821, the University of the Peloponnese and “Gastronomos” magazine have brought together the ingredients and flavors of that time. Moreover, popular chef Lefteris Lazarou has created a special menu comprising 12 recipes! The menu is accompanied by the wine pairing suggestions curated by Master of Wine Constantinos Lazarakis, comprising local varieties.

Through 12 cooking videos and detailed recipes, the initiative will train restaurants in the Peloponnese in the preparation of the dishes, so that, by applying their own creative approach, they can integrate them into their menus. In addition, an indicative list has been created with the logo “A ‘Revolutionary’ Menu,” which will be available free of charge to all food service professionals who decide to participate in the initiative.

The restaurants participating in the action will be announced on the initiative’s websitewww.morias21.com, thus joining the activities’ map of this extremely important initiative; moreover, they will be included in the relevant communication campaign on social media (Facebook/Instagram). By participating in the initiative, the restaurants will receive the MORIAS ’21 – GASTRONOMY sticker, marking their participant status, and they will also receive the same label in electronic form, so that they can promote their participation across their own social media channels. Lastly, through the website of the MORIAS ’21 initiative, visitors will be able to find the details of each restaurant as well as more information.

It is worth noting that the action will be supported by a comprehensive nationwide communication campaign and publicity program, with special references to those participating in the “A ‘Revolutionary’ Menu” initiative.

In honor of the bicentennial of the Greek Revolution, the Captain Vassilis & Carmen Constantakopoulos Foundation and TEMES S.A. have developed the MORIAS ’21 initiative, which invites Greeks the world over to come together this year in the Peloponnese, in order to experience the history of the land where the Greek War of Independence really took off, by participating in thematic routes and interactive experiences. MORIAS ’21 is a comprehensive cultural tourism initiative; through 21 thematic routes, it connects emblematic cities of the Peloponnese, highlighting the history of the land and the role of each city in the Greek War of Independence. The routes last three, five, or seven days, and highlight the famous and the unknown monuments of each city; moreover, they are complemented by four areas of activity, centering on HistoryArtGastronomy and Nature. The University of the Peloponnese is responsible for the scientific documentation of the initiative. Professor Nikolaos Zacharias is coordinator; emeritus professor Thanos Veremis and professor Thanasis Christou are the supervisors on matters of documentation.
