Kalamata Drama International Summer School (KADISS) 2021
Our thoughts continue to be with all those hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, especially those who have lost their lives, those who are vulnerable and those who have found themselves out of work. The latter group includes almost everyone involved in the performing arts. It also includes students of theater and dance, whose education and practice depend on their physical presence, together with other artists, “on stage” and whose study has been largely halted or otherwise disrupted. The team of the KaDISS respects and adheres to all measures aimed at preventing the spread of the virus. In August, the KaDISS is bringing back its full curriculum, on an international level, for young actors and performers, and will continue to contribute to the cultural and educational activities of Kalamata and the wider region. As everyone, we hope that the vaccine will make a real difference in our daily lives and we will soon be able to return to a sense of normalcy.
Circle of Art:
This year, taking into consideration the restrictions and policies to combat the pandemic, we are presenting a new program titled “Circle of Art.” The program comprises a series of creative, artistic and educational conversationswith internationally renowned professional artists and theater educators. The “meetings” will take place in the city of Kalamata and will be presented live and free of charge via an internet platform. “Circle of Art” will commence in May and will continue until the fall of 2023.
“Circle of Art” is funded by the Bareva Foundation in Liechtenstein
KaDISS 2021
The third Kalamata Drama International Summer School is returning with its full curriculum in August, in the capital of Messinia, for three weeks with an international team of renowned teachers.
The Kalamata Drama International Summer School 2021 is under the auspices of the Municipality of Kalamata, and has received the support of the Bareva Foundation in Liechtenstein and the Captain Vassilis & Carmen Constantakopoulos Foundation.
This year’s event will take place between Monday August 16 and Saturday September 4, between 09:00 and 16:00, at the Municipal Cultural Center of Kalamata. This year we are offering places to up to 12 students. This number will allow us to create a group of collaborators/students, at the same time allowing the teachers to give individualized attention to each participant.
The course is taught in English by a group of internationally renowned teachers.
Applications will be accepted until Friday 16 July.
* Any applications coming in later that July 16 won’t be accepted.
Moreover, we are very happy to announce that two Messinians from the field of the performing arts will be able to attend KaDISS 2021 on a full scholarship. These places have been offered with the kind support of the Captain Vassilis & Carmen Constantakopoulos Foundation. Applications for both places will be accepted until Friday, July 2, at the latest.
The scholarship candidates must have some sort of connection to Messinia (place of residence, work, origin etc.) and be able to prove that connection. The application process is the same as for the other candidates (for more information, visit the event website, http://www.kalamatadrama.com/category/application). Scholarship applicants should send their email with the following subject:

The Drama International Summer School is aimed at young artists from all over the world, mainly professional actors, drama school graduates, young people who already have some professional theater experience, as well as those who need to acquire skills/a foundation in other art fields, such as opera and musical theater, and wish to improve their methodology and skills in acting. The summer school – lasting three weeks – is an invaluable source for students or professional actors at the initial stages of their careers, as well as those who wish to re-evaluate their abilities and skills. The aim is to develop the actors’ flexibility by bringing together two fundamental branches/genres of European theater.By delving into and exploring the language of Shakespeare (Scene Study) and Greek classical theater (Classical Theater Lab) as two foundations of theater, as well as through physical theater (Physical Performance) and vocal lessons (Vocal Performance), this intensive course aims at a complete review of the actor’s acting ability through their preparation, concentration, energy and imagination, as well as the enhancement of their skills. The daily voice and movement lessons (Voice and Movement) aim at creating self-discipline and freeing the body, providing skills that broaden the perspective of contemporary theatrical practice through physical flexibility and expression.
Sincerely,
