Culture as a means of sustainable development for Messinia – A strategy for culture

The “Captain Vassilis and Carmen Constantakopoulos” Foundation will conclude its actions for 2018 with an informative event entitled “Culture as a means of sustainable development for Messinia,” which will take place on Friday, December 21, at 17:00, at the conference hall of the Elite City Resort hotel in Kalamata, under the auspices of the Ministry of Interior.
The aim of this open to the public event is to allow the various entities and foundations in the area to present the current state of cultural affairs in Messinia. At the same time, a relevant discussion will serve to point out any existing problems or issues, and suggestions will be made about the future, with the aim of culture’s further contributing to the sustainable development of Messinia.
The event will be attended by the following, who will also hold a discussion with the public: Petros Themelis, Head of Excavations in Ancient Messini, Linda Kapetanea, Art Director of the Kalamata Dance Festival, Dr. Evangelia Militsi-Kehaya, Director of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Messinia, Stavros Benos, President of the “Diazoma” Association, and Dimitris Maniatakis, President of the Maniatakeion Foundation.
On Saturday, December 22, closed meetings will take place between the invited entities and foundations, in order to record any existing challenges and needs facing the development of Messinia’s material and immaterial cultural heritage, and to define and prioritize suggestions on how to face those challenges, with the aim of developing a strategy for Messinia’s cultural development.
