2017

ACTION

The residents and visitors of Pylos, Kalamata, and the surrounding areas responded with great enthusiasm to the call for the clean-up that took place as part of the Eurobirdwatch on Sunday, October 8.

The initiative was part of the actions organized by the Hellenic Ornithological Society all over Greece on the occasion of the Eurobirdwatch.

The clean-up of the Divari beach was organized, just like every year, by volunteers and friends of the Gialova lagoon. More than 30 large bags of rubbish were collected. At the end of the clean-up, all participants, as well as the people who had visited the beach, expressed their contentment and the hope that there will be an even bigger turnout in the future for similar actions.

The participants also had the opportunity to walk around and enjoy the beautiful scenery offered by the Gialova lagoon, and to observe the bird species that were currently in the area.

After the clean-up, the participants expressed their intent to get together again for similar actions, with the certainty that we can thus bring out the environmental value of our area.

The Gialova lagoon clean-up took place with the support of the “Captain Vassilis and Carmen Konstantakopoulos” Foundation, and the Κ.Α.ΝΕ. Social Youth Development. The activity was attended by 25 young people from Greece, Italy, Spain, Turkey, and Tunisia, participating in the INVEP 3.0 youth exchange program, as part of the ERASMUS+ European Learning Program. Of great significance was also the support of students, parents, and teachers of the 1st and 2nd Kindergarten of Pylos.
