Special Elementary School, Kalamata

2015

ACTION

In February 2015, the Captain Vassilis and Carmen Constantakopoulos Foundation supported the Special Elementary School of Kalamata in the creation of a Snoezelen classroom for students with severe disabilities and difficulties such as autism, various syndromes, motor difficulties etc.

The Special Elementary School of Kalamata can accommodate 56 students with severe disabilities. The Snoezelen classroom aims at providing visual, tactile, flavor, audio and olfactory stimuli. Children can interact with the classroom’s environment, and be active participants within it.

The use of personalized programs aims to help students develop the abilities and skills necessary to ensure the smoothest possible integration in the school and social environment. By providing educational and therapeutic support, the main goal is to enable students to participate in and contribute to society, and to be able to live independently and provide for themselves.
